#S1E5 Night & Day

Transcription of the episode #S1E5

Opening: Salvatore Adamo

GoOooOooOOooOoooOOoOod Morning Vietnam and Welcome to MUSITALY the Best Radio Show Ever.

About what? Vabbè! Mo te lo spiego…

Musitaly brings the Best unknown Italian Music abroad. And believe me… there is more besides Pasta, Pizza and Mandolin!

Ok. Who am I? I am Cocopraise and you can easily find me by visiting cocopraise.com otherwise add me on social media… @cocopraise.
I have no friends, I am alone. I live in a cave…

If you add me there, I will bring you a cup of ristretto coffee and a cigarette. Then I’ll take you to the lungomare “A guardar le chiappe chiare”.

Ok… As always we are going to listen to five Italian songs faster than a bullet. And please … don’t forget “Leave the gun. Take the Cannoli.” Alright?

The main topics of the fifth episode of Musitaly are Night & Days. Why? Because they are part of our life.

And now… tell me…

What happens when your partner dumbs you and … say for example … After a month or two he or she is already in a new relationship? For sure it hurts. Why do I know this feeling? Because it happened to me too, Baby.

As we all know, perhaps, during the day you can avoid thinking about your ex-partner. But what happens during the night? Well, maybe the night will drive you crazy.

And that is exactly what Salvatore Adamo sings in this song released in 1965.

Adamo is a talented Italian song-writer born on the amazing island of Sicily, in the South of Italy but grew up in Belgium. He wrote songs in both Italian and French languages. For this reason, he is famous in all the countries where French is spoken, however, he also achieved successes all over the world by selling more than 80 million records as reported by the Italian newspaper Repubblica a few years ago.

Ok. Let’s stop talking and “Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night”.

Part 2: Lucio Battisti

Guys, can I share a secret with you? Despite the meaning of the song, I really love the music of this song. What do you think about that? Agree or disagree? Let me know what you think by leaving a comment at the bottom of the post on musitaly.com otherwise throw the official hashtags in the main social networks.

And what are the official hashtags? Well …

  • #cocochosebetter if you don’t like them and please, tell me also why
  • #cocoyoutheking if you enjoy them or..
  • #cocospeakbetter if I make English mistakes.

Alright?

And now, Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you one of the most famous and loved Italian songwriters.

I already mentioned him in one of the previous episodes but today is the day to talk about him…

Today is the day we listen to Lucio Battisti. The king of the Italian music.

He died in 1999 but his heritage is still alive in everyone’s heart and many Italian singers have reported being influenced by his music, just to give you an example: Ennio Morricone, Zucchero, Eros Ramazzotti, Adriano Celentano and Mina. His talent was appreciated abroad. Infact, as Mogol reported in an interview dated 2015 for the magazine Dagospia, Paul McCartney owns all the Lucio Battisti’s records.

My lovely French electronic music Daft Punk also reported they’ve been inspired by two Italian buddies: the father of Disco Giovanni Giorgio Moroderbut everybody calls me Giorgio … and Lucio Battisti.

I am very proud to know that one of the best singers ever in the history of music in the world, such as David – Ziggy Stardust – Bowie, was a supporter of Lucio Battisti.

As matter of fact, The Starman wrote the English version of the song Io vorrei… non vorrei… ma se vuoi sung by Mick Ronson with the title Music is lethal. Well, guys… just to give you an idea, Mick Ronson is the same guy who produced with David Bowie in 1972 an anonymous album named Transformer sung by an anonymous Lou Reed. Of course, I am joking. You know very well who Lou Reed is and I have to confess I really love him.

P.S. Just a perfect day, Drink sangria in the park. Yo!

Lucio Battisti with Mogol has written many songs that have been greats success in Italy and he has sold more than 25 million records in total.

I don’t know if you have an idea of what it meant to sell 25 million records in the past.

Not views. Not Likes. RECORDS. Vabbè.

The song I chose for you is one of the most sung by everyone in the Belpaese, La canzone del Sole. From campfires to school trips everyone knows this song.

And you know what? I am sure you will sing this song too after today.

Part 3: Jovanotti

Ok and after two big protagonists of the history of Italian Music, let’s move to the third song of the day.

The guy I am about to introduce started his career in the middle of the ‘80s as a Dj.
Then he started his singing career with unknown music for those times named Rap.

Well, to be honest, it wasn’t a real RAP, he released a real Rap Record a few years later, however he was one of the protagonists of the Italian scene. He once said he is a singer by chance because his dream was actually to be a DJ.

He also worked as a speaker for one of the most followed Radio Stations in Italy, Radio DeeJay.

In the past I followed Radio DeeJay because of the “DeeJay Time”, a radio show on all disco records, because I was also a DJ, well…

Before the Internet era, the DeeJay Time in Italy was like the Spotify for all Italian Disc Jockeys. It was the best way to stay up to date with all the best latest records.

Ok, but why am I telling you those stories? Because Lorenzo Cherubini, Jovanotti’s real name, has released a song that we can compare as the official anthem of the night.

The song we are going to listen to is called Gente della Notte, The People of the Nights. This song describes the night very well and what happens in the best romantic way ever. For example, Jovanotti compares the night as a small town where all the people of the night know each other, like people who work in the bakery or newsagents. People who start a job that was created today and passed the next day.

The song ends with the singer singing My name is Jovanotti and I am DJ. I never go to bed before 6 am. Well, sung in Italian the rhyme is better. Let’s listen:

Mi chiamo Patrick e faccio il DJ

Non vado mai a dormire prima delle 6

Part 4: Vasco Rossi

Such an amazing song. Isn’t it? And, if you lived the night like me, you will obviously appreciate this song even more.

As usual, don’t forget to let me know what you think about my music selection and I will bring you a delicious Bruschetta instead of Bruscetta.

Ok, now let’s move on and present the fourth Mostro Sacro of contemporary Italian Music. He is by far the most famous Italian Rocker despite not being very famous abroad.

But, Hey! Don’t Worry Baby. Musitaly it’s here to introduce you to people like the rocker from Zocca who have influenced at least three generations of people.

BTW, Zocca is a lovely town near Modena also known as the Maserati city where… in 1929 the Drake a.k.a. Enzo Ferrari founded the Scuderia Ferrari, before moving to Maranello.

Vasco Rossi, known simply as Vasco otherwise Blasco, began his career in 1977 and since then he has released more than 30 records and almost 200 songs so far. Amazing, no? What if I tell you he has sold over 30 million records? Super Amazing, no?

Aspe’… Questo è Niente which means What I told you so far is still not surprising… Listen to me paying attention… He staged more than 800 concerts and according to the website theticketingbusiness.com in 2018 Vasco Rossi broke a world record when he played in front of 220,000 paying ticket-holders of a concert in Modena at the Autodromo di Modena well known abroad as Enzo Ferrari Park.

Just to be clear, in 2021, the year this radio show was released, the record number of concerts attended by more than 3.5 million is still held by Jean-Michel Jarre when he played his concert in Moscow, Russia, at The 850th Anniversary of Moscow and by Rod Stewart when he played his concert at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for New Year’s Eve. Please note both concerts were free.

Vabbè … the Vasco Rossi’s song that I chose for you today is Albachiara. This song is one of the most famous of Blasco’s repertory and it is the same song that is also known by people like my mother, almost 70 who… Believe me, she is like a line parallel with Vasco Rossi’s Music. Well, let’s say their worlds are like two lines parallel.

This song is about a sort of platonic love felt by the singer. In Fact, this song is inspired by a thirteen-year-old girl, Giovanna, who lived in Vasco’s hometown in the late ’70s.

According to what the singer himself reported when Giovanna turned 18, Vasco told her that Albachiara was a dedication to her, and she got angry.

Please don’t ask me why. What I can definitely say is that Vasco Rossi then wrote the song Una Canzone per Te, A Song for you.

Come sempre Amici, ma soprattutto amiche … Albachiara …

Vasco Rossi – Albachiara

Part 5: Pierangelo Bertoli

E vabbè… It was Albachiara and this is one of the most played songs around the campfire with La Canzone del Sole in the Summer. And you know what? If you are the guitar player… well, maybe at the end of the night you will just take your guitar home.

Ok.. this is the time for the last song of this episode and we will still be in the region of Emilia Romagna

You need to know that region has something special.

From there we found many famous products all over the world as already mentioned: Maserati and Ferrari and of course Lamborghini. Ducati Motorcycles from Bologna. Bimota from Rimini. Technogym from Cesena…

Speaking of food we have the famous tortellini from Bologna, the Piadina from Rimini…

Many singers such as Lucio Dalla, Luca Carboni and Biagio Antonacci come from Bologna, Vasco Rossi from Zocca, Samuele Bersani from Rimini even thought he lives in Bologna, Nobraino from Rimini too…

Well, I have given you just a few examples because that region has more and more.

From the same region, precisely from the town of Sassuolo, is the singer we are going to listen to in a few seconds.

His name is Pierangelo Bertoli and, unfortunately, he died in 2002. For me, this singer has always been an example of life for two main reasons.

The first one is because of his music. I really like it. The second reason is for his example of life.

Pierangelo Bertoli, in fact, at the age of 4 suffered from polio and has lost the use of his legs since then.

Despite everything, Cari Amici, he didn’t give up on this and he reached a good level of success as a singer-songwriter and poet.

The song I chose for you today to end the episode Night & Day is Spunta la Luna dal monte, The moon rises up from the mountain.

This song talks about the night in a romantic way and… The particularity of this track is the featuring.

In fact, Pierangelo Bertoli released this song with the Sardinian Band named Tazenda an ethnic pop-rock band formed in Sardinia in 1988 and all the Tazenda parts of this song are sung in the Sardinian language.

Pierangelo Bertoli – Spunta la Luna dal Monte

Closing Episode #S1E5

Ok Beautiful People. This one was the last one for today.

But… Before ending this episode I have to confess something … The two songs that are supposed to be about the day, actually only contain a word related to‘day’ but the meaning has nothing to do with it.

The first La Canzone del Sole which means the Song of the Sun doesn’t speak about the sun. The same goes for Vasco Rossi’s song, Albachiara which we can translate as the Light Sunrise, as you know talks about something else.
This one was a “piccolo scherzetto”.

Hope you enjoyed the rhythm of this episode.

And now, I know. You miss me already but as I already told you once, remember you are missing out on something you no longer have.

Musitaly, instead, will be back exactly in 7 days. I’ll catch up with you next week.

Thank you for listening to me.

As always, have a lovely week and … Remember you are Legendary!

Love You and …

Don’t Forget Me

Ciao
