In the meantime, Let’s introduce you to the two topics of the week: The Italian Society and The Value of the Time.
Let’s start with the first one, The Italian Society. The song I’ve chosen to represent this topic is Quelli che benpensano, released in 1997.
This one is a critical song about all the Italian’s controversies. A song that describes, for example, that kind of society with fake morality because we don’t ever forget, Italy is the country with the Vatican State inside.
Vabbe’ … the chorus of the song sings: They are around me but they don’t talk with me.
In this simple sentence, the author of the song clarifies he is not part of that kind of people and in my opinion, this song describes very well part of the Italian society who is arrogant, ruthless and gunner. But I think this kind of people are everywhere. Unfortunately.
BTW, the song is sung by Frankie Hi Nrg, one of the Italian rappers that we can say …Old School.
He is still active in the music industry and he released many other beautiful songs later but unfortunately, since then, he never reached the same success as Quelli che ben pensano.
However, I have to say that the rhythm of the song, released 23 years ago and passed so fast is still modern and cool.

Ok, time to move to the second song and we have to fly to the beautiful city of Naples. That city is amazing. Full of history, traditions and culture. It’s exactly from Napoli where a famous band began its career around 1987.
This band released very good songs among different musical genres such as rap, dub, reggae and trip-hop. Their particular sign is that their songs are mainly released in the Neapolitan language.
The song I’ve chosen for you is Oreminutiusecondi, which we can translate as HoursMinutesSeconds.
I went for this song because of its meaning. It reminds us we shouldn’t think about the past because life just touches us and then it leaves us.
One of the best parts of the song is … let me try to translate properly:

Amazing, isn’t it? And thanks to Raiz voice, the frontman of the group, this poetry became a beautiful song.

Part 3: Luca Carboni
Amazing… Well, I should repeat this to myself often in this song but as we know… preaches good and scratches badly. #vabbe’
Ok, RegazZzZzz This is the third shot of the day … Let’s move to Bologna. One of the beautiful cities of Italy.
I have to tell you something … in that city, I left part of my heart. I lived in Bologna for ten years and I know… I will go back there one day … hashtag hearth …
We are going to listen to La Mia Citta’, My city, sung by Luca Carboni.
This song is another kind of sue about bad human beings’ behaviour we feel in our lives daily. Such as that kind of people who went to school only to learn how to scam us.
But at the same time, Luca Carboni gives us a solution to sort out everything.
He sings that we need more love in our lives to escape this prison, comparing the crazy city he portrayed to prison.
Anyway, in spite of everything, I really love the rhythm of this song and every time I listen to this song my memories fly straight away to all the cities I loved in my life.
Part 4: Malika Ayane
Ok, Guys… now we are in trouble for real. We have arrived at the fourth song and I didn’t ask you yet what you think about the songs I’ve played so far.

You have to know that until 1958 the prostitution was legal in Italy. Then because of law 75 of 1958 well known as Merlin Law named after her promoter the senator Lina Merlin, prostitution went illegal also in Italy as the main part of the world.
So, the name of the bill or receipt for that kind of service was named Marchetta.
In the common use of the modern Italian language, we use the word Marchetta as a sense of contempt. Otherwise for joking meaning, as in this case, to identify any kind of unprofessional request. As for me a few minutes ago when I asked you to follow me on IG. I did a Marchetta.
Ok, after the most useless lesson of Italian language in human’s history, let’s go for the fourth song.
She is Malika Ayane with the song Senza fare sul Serio. I’ve chosen this song to talk again about the value of time. The suggestion of the singer is… we shouldn’t be too serious in our lives and just keep the moment. Because the time passes slowly but it might be slower if we don’t keep that moment.

Part 5: Nino D’Angelo

Ok… for the next singer, I have to tell you something. He is very famous, but, believe me, he is more than a singer.
He began his career at the beginning of 1970 as a singer but he got experiences also as actor, director, songwriter, writer, screenwriter and please… allow me the power to also describe him as one of the main supporters of the Napoli football team.
Because I have a lot of respect for him I know perfectly he deserves more than an episode of Musitaly to talk about his career.
This is the reason why for today I only tell you that he is one of the main representatives of the Neapolitan songs because of his popularity.
His name is Nino D’Angelo and he is known by the Italian Pop audience for the song Senza Giacca e Cravatta, Without a blazer and a tie, that we will listen to for sure in one of the next episodes of Musitaly.
Today, as the last song of this episode, we will listen to the song Jamme Ja, which we can translate like.. Let’s Go, Le. In fact, the word Jamme, in the Neapolitan language means Let’s go.
This song is a perfect picture of the South Italy situation. Unlike the first two songs we have listened to about the Italian Society, Quelli che Ben Pensano and La mia Citta’ which talk about society in general, this one is specifically about the contradictions of the Meridione, the word used to identify the South of Italy. BTW Meridione is the word used to identify the South of Italy and the word Meridionale, you will listen to in the next song, which means a person from Meridione.
This song talks about all the good qualities of both people and the territories, all the good things from the South of Italy but despite everything the only hope is leaving.
